Cebu City, also known as “Queen City of the South”, is the oldest city in the Philippines. Historically, this is where the initial battle between the Filipinos and Spaniards took place. The city was established immediately by the Spanish explorer Miguel Lopez de Legazpi’s in 1565. Rich in culture and natural resources, the island of Cebu boasts of some of the Philippines’ oldest and treasured traditions, festivals, and famed tourist spots of pristine beaches that have been a constant favorite of tourists from all over the world. Cebu presents the widest variety of sun and sea activities on dazzling island hopping tours – limitless water sports, golf, tennis and beautiful sightseeing within fascinating biodiversity on land and underwater. Cebu hosts every third Sunday of January one of the most celebrated festivals called Sinulog. The festival is seen to honor and connect both of the Cebuanos’ pagan past and Christian present. The name comes from the Cebuano adverb sulog, which means “like water current movement” and describes the forward-backward movement of the dance to the beat of the drum.
