Boasting on rich cultural heritage, and awe-inspiring natural landscapes, the island region of Mindanao is unlike any other hidden gem. It is in Mindanao where the dream weavers of the T’boli indigenous tribe in Lake Sebu reside, weaving the T’nalak and passing on the tradition for centuries. It is in this island region where the unadulterated rolling hills of the La Palmera Mountain Ridge in Sultan Kudarat can be found. It is in Mindanao where Mt. Apo, the highest peak in the Philippines, stands at 2,954 metres tall, and is one of the homes of the Philippine Eagle. But this month, as you plan your summer adventures for next year, we will be spotlighting some of the famous beaches in Mindanao:

Mantigue Island in Camiguin

Known locally as Magsaysay Island, Mantigue Island has a beach that’s pristine and generally litter-free where you can swim ’til your heart’s content. Taking about 20-30 minutes from the main island it  is also a great diving spot and snorkeling site as it is a protected marine sanctuary beaming with coral reef and marine life.

Samal Island in Davao del Norte

Officially known as the Island Garden City of Samal, it is well-known for its white sand beaches and crystal clear waters where one can do scuba diving, island hopping, or even hiking! The island is a 2 kilometre ferry ride from Davao City, and is one of the largest resort cities in the country. The months of December to May may be the good time to visit as the island generally has calm waters during this time, and is considered the dry season. June to November on the other hand is the rainy season for the destination, although it may also be a good time to visit if one prefers fewer crowds. Whatever season you prefer to visit, Samal Island will surely be there to accommodate you.

Dakak Beach Resort in Zamboanga

Dakak Park and Beach in Zamboanga del Norte features a number of adventures inside its property– from scuba diving, to hiking, or simply just plainly swimming, this beach is truly a tropical paradise. The resort is located in Dapitan City which is an area covered with lush green trees, serving as a habitat for native plants, and animals. As a fun fact, Dakak is actually shortened from “Dakong Kakahoyan,” or vast forest in English, which the resort certainly lives up to.

Located off the famous General Luna in Siargao, Daku Island is one of the provinces’ prized islands with its white sand shores, vast line up of coconut trees, and gentle waters. With its name directly translated as “large,” Daku Island is perfect for those looking for destinations to just laze around, be a beach bum, and just enjoy the sand and the sea.
